If you like to fish in south-west estuaries, you can help fisheries scientists with important research by catching black bream and sea mullet at the Vasse Surge Barrier on the evening of Wednesday 6 December.

Murdoch University scientists are monitoring the passage of these species through the surge barrier and need recreational fishers’ help to catch fish to tag for their study.

The catch and tag exercise is from 4pm to 6pm on Wednesday – register your interest via email geocatch@dwer.wa.gov.au or phone 9781 0111.

Please bring your own fishing rods and reels and sun protection – hooks, sinkers and bait will be provided. Parking for the event is opposite the barrier on the beachside of Layman Road.

You can find further details of the event at the Geocatch website https://geocatch.asn.au/event/community-fishing-day-2/
